Story by Mack Poholko – – Pictures by Rick Adelberger
The Mopar enthusiasts in Edmonton and surrounding area along with the support of Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth dealers have hosted major events at Castrol Raceway starting in 1995. The first events were hosted by the Edmonton Mopars from 1995-97. President Don Fox and a small group including Dan Rasmussen, Rick Adelsberger and Doug Lepak hosted three major events with support from Turnbull/South Trail Motors. These shows led to coverage by Thomas A. DeMauro of HIGH PERFORMANCE MOPAR magazine in 1997 The events were attended by enthusiasts and collectors from all over Western Canada. Special guests included Mopar expert Galen Govier. Several cars at the show in 1997 received follow-up articles as well.
The next MOPAR events at Castrol Raceway were hosted by the EMC in 2007 and 2008. The 2007 show was the 10th anniversary of the club that was formed from some of the original members of the Edmonton Mopars including Rick Adelsberger , Mack Poholko and Derek Spraakman. Derrick Dodge was the main dealer sponsor for these events. Crosstown Chrysler was a sponsor as well. In 2007 the event was a two-day show followed by a one-day event in 2008. Both events were well attended by show and drag cars from far and wide. Show coordinator Rick Adelsberger and a crew of dedicated volunteers including Derek Spraakman, Kim Koda, Tom Gallotti and Del Gray made these events very successful.
A one-day show was hosted by MEGA-MOPARS and Castrol Raceway in 2013
In 2016 a new Mopar club was formed called the Edmonton Mopar Association. They hosted a one-day event in 2019 called Western Mopar Madness to continue the event at Castrol Raceway. The EMA will be hosting this show again in 2020 and beyond.
